Social Responsibility

Vancouver Island Shingle is strongly committed to maintaining good associations within the community.

The owners of the mill and all of their affiliated companies regularly contribute to charitable societies, sponsor local sports teams and otherwise monetarily support the community.

In addition to this monetary support, they routinely give of their time to help anyone who has a need, and have by their works shown themselves to be generous and kind.

Personally I, the manager of the mill, have spent 11 years in volunteer service in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves Ranger unit as a search and rescue worker, 5 years as a Canada Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue Technician, a Swift Water Rescue Technician for 10 years, and a Level 3 First Aid Attendant.

I also have a Premieres Award for Volunteer Service in salmon enhancement, a Special Service Award from the Canadian Armed Forces, and certificates from the North Vancouver Island Salmon Enhancement Society for volunteer service.

I have coaching certification in Soccer, Track and Field, Trampoline, Gymnastics and Weight Lifting, and while in school regularly coached students in all of these sports, and occasionally tutored Calculus 12 and Physics 12.

My main focus now is teaching, as an ordained minister in the Christian church.

I believe this company and all of its employees are good role models for the community, and of substantial benefit to all of its partners, subsidiaries and peripheral organizations.
